Janice Kay Hexdall

Janice (Jan) Kay Hexdall (Desch), 77, of Hendersonville, NC went to be with God on Wednesday, July 14, 2021. She grew up in Topeka, KS. She later resided in Frankfort, Naperville, and Oswego, IL before moving to Sarasota, FL and eventually NC. She is survived by her loving husband of 25 years, Kenneth; her children, Joan Smyntek (Kevin) and Cheryl Ruoff as well as grandchildren, Erin and Matthew. She is further survived by sister, Patricia Miller (Richard); brothers, Stephen Desch (Lorri) and Brian Desch (Melinda); step-son, Eric Hexdall (Caroline); step-daughter, Cindy Kavanaugh (Matt) and step-grandchildren, Austin, Camille, and Ethan. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Rita Desch and son-in-law, Stephen Ruoff.

 

Jan graduated from Hayden High School and Washburn University in Topeka, KS and was active with the Hayden Alumni group. Jan began her career as a teacher, then became a legal secretary and later an executive assistant.

Jan will be missed for her loving, generous spirit and her thoughtfulness towards others.  She was always writing a note to thank someone, encourage them, or just stay in touch.  She volunteered at the Women’s Guild of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church where she was a parishioner. Jan loved to knit and was part of the Hendersonville Welcome Club and knitting group, Dinner Divas club, Food and Friends club and was very active in the Hendersonville PEO chapter. She loved to travel to visit family and host family and friends at her home. She will be missed by all.

 

A visitation will be held from 9:00-9:45 am on Tuesday, July 20, 2021 with a funeral mass following at 10:00 am at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 208 7th Ave W, Hendersonville, NC.  Visitation will also be held at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka, KS on Monday, July 26, 2021 from 4-6 pm and a funeral mass will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 227 SW Van Buren St, Topeka, KS on Tuesday July 27, 2021 at 10:00 am.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be offered to Immaculate Conception Church or Interfaith Assistance Ministry, Hendersonville, NC.
