Janice Kay Hertzler, 78, of Lisbon, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 15, 2023, at Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, Iowa. Funeral Services: 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 19, 2023, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Mount Vernon, Iowa, by Rev. Sean Hanson. Visitation: 9 to 11 a.m. at the church prior to the service. Burial: Lisbon Cemetery. Arrangements are with Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon.

Survivors include her son, Steve (Julie) Hertzler; grandchildren, Annie (Matthew) Walker, Sarah (Jake) Grasser, and Bethany (Leonard) Thurmond; great-granddaughter, Amelia Walker; daughter-in-law, Sharon (Jim Overmann) Wendell Hertzler; sister, Diane (Ron) Weldin; brother, Al (Kristy) Bentley; and many nieces and nephews.

Kay was born on Jan. 14, 1945, the daughter of Harold and Maxine (Blosser) Bentley. She graduated from Northeast Hamilton High School in 1963. On May 29, 1964, she married Ronald Hertzler at the Vernon Lutheran Church in Dows, Iowa. Kay worked in a variety of jobs over the years including a podiatry office, operating her own daycare, as a teacher’s aide for Lisbon Schools, and as a housekeeper for the Sisters of Mercy.

In her free time, Kay was a talented crafter, especially crocheting, quilting, and needlepoint. Her special gifts she lovingly shared with her family and friends. Kay loved hosting tea parties, playing cards, baking (especially her delicious pumpkin bread), and reading. She was a member of the Priscilla Guild at church and enjoyed her craft and card party clubs. She also loved spending time with her lifelong friends and family.

Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald; her son, Kyle Hertzler; parents, Harold and Maxine Bentley Stover; brother, Ken Bentley; in-laws, Harry and Geraldine Hertzler; and stepfather, Ken Stover.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Paul Lutheran Church.
