Janet Lorraine Jones, 90, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2024, at St. Luke’s Helen G. Nassif Transitional Care Center in Cedar Rapids. The family will greet friends from 10 – 11 a.m. on Friday, June 7, 2024, at Kenwood Park United Methodist Church, with a Memorial Service to follow at 11 a.m. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery in Des Moines, Iowa. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family.
Janet was born on June 4, 1933, in Wapello, Iowa, the daughter of Mathew and Eloise (Corey) McAfee. She was a graduate of Morning Sun High School and went on to earn her associate’s degree from American Institute of Business in Des Moines, Iowa. On July 11, 1953, Janet was united in marriage to Robert Lee Jones in Morning Sun, Iowa. Together, they had four children. She was a very active member of Kenwood Park United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids and a member of The Writer’s Club. Janet enjoyed knitting and researching genealogy. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Janet is survived and lovingly remembered by her three children, Rose Crescenz, Laird (Karen) Jones, and Andrew Jones; four grandchildren, Stephanie (fiancé, Justin Kell) Jones, Jessica (fiancé, Brett Kass) Jones, Luke Jones, and Phillip Jones; and three great-grandchildren, Kaleb Jones, Chris Jones, and Raya Sweiss.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert “Bob” Jones; son, Carl Robert Jones; and sister, Gwen Sacco.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to her memorial fund at Wells Fargo Bank.
