Janet Kay Elder, 72 of Springfield, died at 8:47 am Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at Memorial Medical Center. She was born December 29, 1947 in Springfield, to James and Ruby (Wilson) Crowder-Goins. She married David Elder on November 19, 2011.
Janet is survived by her husband, David, of Springfield; one daughter, Melissa “Missy” (Jerry) VanMeter of Sherman; one son, John Ritz of Petersburg; two step-daughters, April Elder and Samantha Elder both of Springfield; five grandchildren, Nikki (Nevin) Tauchus of GA; Allie (Greg) Farmer of Chatham; Danielle (Jonah) Kadyk of Sherman; Zayne Ritz of Petersburg and Landon Elder-Cleaver of Springfield; four great grandchildren, Tegan, Kanin, and Grady Tauchus and Kinley Farmer; two siblings, Bobbie Staley of MO and John Goins of Springfield, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; five siblings and one granddaughter.
Janet was a lifelong resident of Springfield and retired from USPS after 30 plus years of service. During that time, she was secretary for the Clerk Division of the American Postal Workers Union for over 20 years.
She enjoyed boating on Lake Springfield and was a member of Aqua Club, Prop Club and the Springfield Ski Club. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinal’s fan and also enjoyed camping, and watching game shows and soap operas.
Private visitation will be held at Staab Funeral Home- Springfield.
CDC Protocol shall be followed.
Janet’s family plans to host a Celebration of Life at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
