James L. Saffer

James L. Saffer entered his forever home in Heaven on Tuesday, December 20, 2022. Jim was born on October 22, 1937 to Glenn and Daisy Saffer of Fancy Prairie, IL. He was a graduate of Athens High School. After graduation Jim entered the Marine Corps, stationed at Camp Pendleton, CA where he served his country. He married his high school sweetheart, Twyla Letz in 1956 and has been devoted to her these 66 years, in health and sickness (her dementia), leaving a lasting legacy.
Surviving Jim are his wife, Twyla, son Perry (Debra) Saffer and daughter Carla (Mitch) Lucie, five grandsons and their wives. He also adored his four great grandchildren.
Jim worked for Illinois Bell Telephone for several years and then joined the Illinois State Police where he worked 25 years, retiring at the rank of Lieutenant. He enjoyed dancing, riding motorcycles, flying his private plane, woodworking, fishing, and spending time with family and friends. He also used his God-given gifts to serve others.
Jim was passionate about sharing the Gospel with anyone with whom he crossed paths. Christ Jesus was the Lord of his life, and he will spend eternity praising Him!
Visitation: 10 am – 12 pm, Monday, December 26, 2022 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.
Funeral Service: 12 pm, Monday, December 26, 2022 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield with Mike Harney officiating. Burial will follow at Walnut Hill Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
