James L. Starr Sr., 53, died Saturday April 20, 2024, at Mercy Hospital, Cedar Rapids following an extended illness, surrounded by his family.

Visitation will be held from 4 until 7 Tuesday evening at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, with a brief prayer service and military honors commencing at 7.

Surviving are his wife Tracy, his children, James (Tabatha) Starr, Jessica (Kody) Miles, Tiffanie (Doru) Contardo, Christopher (Rachel) Roney, Zachary Starr, Alec Karnik, Austin Starr, 11 grandchildren; Gavin, Aspen, Bailey, Abigail, Camille, Ian, Ruger, Dawsyn, Madilynn, Kaden, Waylon, his best friend Eric Loney and other good friends, his siblings, Lori (Jeff) Nash, Bart Starr, his father- and mother-in-law, William and Wendy Carpenter, other in-laws, David Carpenter, Christina (Rick) Hahesy, Joseph (Christy Parrott) Carpenter, and several other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded by his parents, his beloved dog Chico, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

James Leroy Starr Sr. was born December 7, 1970, at Aledo, Illinois. He was the son of Francis and Carolyn (Willett)Starr. Jim received his education in the Aledo Schools. He went on to serve in the United States Army. Jim then started his career in truck driving. First as a over-the road as a owner-operator of Starr Trucking. In more recent years he drove for L.L. Pelling doing road construction. Jim married Tracy Carpenter on February 5, 2003 at Manchester, Iowa.

When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed bartering for items, hunting, fishing, going to Walcott, and time spent with his family and friends, especially his grandkids.
