James “Hopy” Griffith, 82, of Mansfield, Ohio passed away at his home on Friday, December 17, 2021. He was born in Grayson, Kentucky on June 10, 1939 to the late Walter and Martha (Boggs) Griffith.
James was a U.S. Air Force veteran, proudly serving 29 years as crew Chief Air Mechanic. A handy man at heart, he enjoyed wood working, doing yard work, gardening and working on his Jeep. James loved spending time with family, especially his grandkids. He also loved guns, his beloved dogs, Indian Pow Wow and going to military shows.
James is survived by his daughters, Sarah (Luis) Gonzalez, Sonja (Joe) Coleman, Dianna (Greg) Thompson and Angela (Ed) Bailey; son, Jamie Griffith; sisters, Marty Dickison and Essa Kaye (Allen) Barker; brother, Harlan (Jackie) Dickison; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janet (Jackson) Griffith; brother and sister-in-law, Ted and Doris Griffith; and grandson, Gregory Thompson.
The family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Rd., Ontario, Ohio 44906. A service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, December 23, 2021 beginning at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Abe Figueroa officiating. He will be laid to rest in Mansfield Memorial Park.
