James Fry, 86, of Iowa City and formerly of Williamsburg, passed away on July 30, 2024, at Briarwood Health Care Center.

A Masonic Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, August 5, 2024, at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Visitation will follow until 3:00 p.m. Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Williamsburg following visitation.

Jim was born on September 20, 1937, in Williamsburg, Iowa to John and Doris (Miller) Fry. He graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1956 and was united in marriage to Glenna Taylor in 1959. Over the years Jim worked in construction, was a cement truck driver, and a dispatcher at a ready-mix plant. He finished his career as a construction management inspector for Shoemaker & Haaland Professional Engineers.

Jim was a member of the Masonic Lodge (Iowa City #4) and active in El-Kahir Temple, the Scottish Rite in Cedar Rapids. He was Potentate in 2005 and President of the Central State’s Shrine Association in 2012. Jim and Glenna enjoyed gardening and walking together and in his earlier years, enjoyed running.

Jim is survived by his wife, Glenna; daughter, Julie (Rob) Fell; grandchildren and great grandchildren: Jonathan (Alex) Fell and their daughters Zooey and Iris; Ryan (Ashley) Fell and their daughters Chelsea, Naomi, and Adelaide; as well as two nephews: David and Martin Fry.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Steven, and siblings: Keith, Rod, Murray, and Christine.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
