James Allan Meyer

Doctor James Allan Meyer, age 84, of Rogers Park area of Chicago, passed away recently at home. He was born in Chicago and grew up in Rogers Park. He attended Campion Jesuit High School in Wisconsin, and Loyola University. After graduation he entered the Jesuit Community and was ordained in the early 70’s. Following that, he received his M. D. from Loyola Medical School and went on to specialize in Psychiatry. He practiced for many years in Chicago and was on the staff of Mercy Hospital in Chicago. His many interests varied from wrestling while in college and judo while in medical school, to watercolor painting, to camping trips, and then on to downhill skiing with a group of old friends. He especially enjoyed serving on cruise ships as an “Apostle of the Sea”, which took him to many ports of call. He is preceded in death by 4 of his 5 siblings, Mary Claire, Kenneth Carl, Joseph Eugene, and Rose Marie. He is survived by his sister Helen.

Father Allan always made himself available to his family, including multiple nieces and nephews, by presiding over any sacramental services they might need, and unfailingly calling each family member on their birthday. Father/Doctor Allan truly led a life of service to parishioners, patients, friends and especially family. A memorial visitation will be held Sunday December 26,2021 from 2:00pm until time of memorial service at 3:00pm at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 6150 N. Cicero Ave., Chicago.
