Jack Carlton Oberlin Sr., 92, of Mansfield, passed away Thursday evening, October 14, 2021, at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital.
He was born July 9, 1929, in Mansfield, Ohio, to the late Esther (Hess) and Ray Oberlin. Jack was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army. In 1953, he married the woman of his dreams, Pauline Jean Christoff, and their life together created a tender and sweet story. He was employed as a truck driver for many years. His occupation was a perfect fit with his joy of driving and taking rides. He was a member of Mohican 99 Camping Club and had many adventures with family and friends. Jack was content camping or sitting with a fishing pole in his hand. Visiting with his friends at local garages was a favorite pastime. He enjoyed tending to his flowers and making his yard a showpiece in the neighborhood.
Jack leaves behind his loving wife of 68 years, Jean Oberlin; son, Jim (Libby) Oberlin; two daughters, Julie (David) Murphy and Jayne Baker; nine grandchildren, Jeremy Murphy, David Murphy Jr., Christopher (Pauline) Murphy, Hannah Oberlin, Jimmy (Di) Baker Jr., Jennifer Burke, William Burke, Erica (Cody) Newton, and Jack (Kalee) Oberlin III; four great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, Bill Burke; daughter-in-law, Shelley Oberlin; and brother, David (Beverly) Oberlin.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Burke; and son, Jack Oberlin Jr.
The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00 p.m. Friday, October 22, 2021, in the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. The funeral service conducted by his son, Jim Oberlin, will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. He will be laid to rest in Mansfield Memorial Park with military honors presented by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail. Memorial contributions may be made to the Richland County Veterans Service Commission.
