Irene Mae (Tumilty) White, 95, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 16, 2023, in the loving hands of the nurses at the Hiawatha Care Center, surrounded by her family.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Friday, April 21, 2023, at the First Christian Church in Vinton. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, also at the church. Interment will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Shellsburg.
Irene was born on Aug. 20, 1927, the daughter of James Earl and Mable (Benesh) Tumilty. She graduated from Shellsburg High School with the class of 1945. On June 8, 1947, she was united in marriage to William R. “Pete” White at the Federated Church in Shellsburg.
Irene worked at the Benton County Treasurer’s office for over 20 years. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Vinton.
She is survived by her children, Steve (Sue) White of Cedar Rapids, Bill (Jane) White of Vinton, Tammy (Barry) Schwartz of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren, Jenny (Josh) Wyckoff of Urbana, Jay (Karly) White of Kansas City, Mo., Wally (Tish) White of Cedar Rapids; two great-grandchildren, Jaylynn Wyckoff and Brooklyn Wyckoff; two sisters, Louise Armstrong of Atkins, Kaylene Spicer of Vinton; and her sister-in-law, Marlene Tumilty of Shellsburg.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Pete in 2012; three brothers, Vernon, Raymond and Kirk Tumilty; and her sister, Thelma Frese of Norway.
