Ida Mae Thorn fell asleep in death on February 4, 2020.
Ida was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Willie George Thorn, daughters, Jannette Benjamin, Bertha Thorn, and Gloria Gray. Siblings, Fred Allen, Charles Benjamin, and Inez Washington, granddaughters, Sandra A. Harris and Sharon Thomas.
She leave to cherish her memories to her children, Laura (George) Harris, Jessie Thomas of Montgomery AL, Melissa (Jerry Abu) Brown, Carl (Teri) Thorn, Hazel Johnson-Smith, Willie Johnson Jr., and Ulysses Johnson of Detroit MI., along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
Ida Ma Thorn was born on April 1, 1928, in Burkeville, Alabama, to the late Nelson and Idell Benjamin. She moved to Montgomery, at an early age where she resided for years. In 1960 she moved to Cleveland, Ohio and remained there until her passing. Ida was a very lovable and caring person along with being a devoted and loving mother and grandmother. She was always giving and doing for her family and others. Ida was devoted and faithful to her religion as a Jehovah Witness for over 40 years. Ida retired from the Cleveland Public Library at the age of 65. During retirement, she was able to dedicate more time with her family and her religion.
