Ida Anna Goldsmith, 94, formerly of Geneseo, IL, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2024, at the home of her daughter, Carla Mitchell, in Gray, TN, where she had resided for the past eight years.

A memorial service will be held at First Lutheran Church in Geneseo, IL, on June 24, 2024. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM. A light luncheon will be served in the church basement afterward. The scattering of ashes will be a private family event.

Mrs. Goldsmith was born on October 20, 1929, in Williamsburg, IA, the daughter of Gottlieb and Martha Frehner. She graduated from Williamsburg/Parnell High School. On July 10, 1953, she married Robert Goldsmith, who preceded her in death on May 21, 1986.

Mrs. Goldsmith dedicated many years to her role as a Library Clerk at Millikin School in Geneseo, working from 1974 until her retirement in 2002. In her earlier years, she was actively involved as a Den Mother, Girl Scout leader, and supportive Band, Football, and choir parent.

She cherished spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed reading, playing cards, and traveling.

Ida is survived by her son, Robert (Robin) Goldsmith of Erie, CO, her daughter, Carla Mitchell (fiancé Gary Summers) of Gray, TN, and her grandsons Geoffrey Goldsmith of Erie, CO, Benjamin Mitchell of Dallas, TX, and Travis Williams of Carlisle, PA. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Elsa Cooper, Clara Smothers, and Martha Frehner, and her brother William Frehner.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to her daughter to help with final expenses or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
