Howard “Gene” Harney

Howard “Gene” Harney, 80, of Curran, died at 11:30 am, August 5, 2021 at Regency Nursing Care. He was born March 3, 1941, in Curran, to Roy Nathaniel and Ollie Corinne Flowers Harney. He married Carrol Ann Withey in 1969 and she preceded him in death on June 20, 2021.

Survivors include five siblings, Mary Bilyeu of Curran, Bill (Irene) Harney of Curran, Jim (Linda M.) Harney of Loami, Linda Harney of Curran and John (Judy) Harney of Curran and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; three sisters, Dorothy Cloyd, Anna May Bilyeu and Ina Marie Harney and one brother, Ed Harney.

Gene was a US Army veteran. He was a member of the VFW.

During their years together, Gene and Carrol enjoyed fishing, camping and watching the St. Louis Cardinals and Illini basketball.

Visitation: 10 – 11 am, Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

Funeral Service: 11 am, Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield, with Pastor Darrin Thurman officiating. Burial will follow at Chatham Memorial Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
