Helen Barnwell Jones Bene

Helen Barnwell Jones Bene passed away peacefully at Elizabeth House on Monday, May 9, 2022.  Born in Henderson County on September 19, 1934, to Otto and Burmie Barnwell, Helen attended Fletcher High School and graduated in 1953.  Upon graduation, she attended Blanton’s Business College where she graduated in 1955.  For over 25 years, Helen worked for Youngblood Truck Lines.  She enjoyed competing in ballroom dancing competitions and was a lifetime member of Calvary Episcopal Church.

Helen was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Jones, in 1981.  Also, preceding her was a brother, Lawrence Barnwell; and sisters Virginia Redick and Blanche Peek.  She is survived by her husband, Imre Bene; her son, Benny Jones; daughters Denise Youngblood (Benny), Dawn Creasman (Bob), and Gabby Hamza; brother, David Barnwell (Jane); 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, May 15, 2022, at 2:00 pm at Calvary Episcopal Church in Fletcher, NC.  The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Four Seasons Hospice Elizabeth House, 571 South Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731.
