Hazel Lorraine Pierce
- February 8, 2022
Hazel Lorraine Pierce was born October 18, 1935 in Rockford, Illinois to Almon and Hazel Lapp. She was 86 years old when she passed away on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 in Rockford.
Hazel attended Rockford schools and graduated from East High School in 1953. That same year she married Richard Schroeder who also graduated from East High in 1953. Being young and adventurous, Richard joined the US Marines and they lived in San Diego, CA, and North Carolina. After serving time in the Marines, Richard and Hazel moved back to Rockford. Dennis was born August 19, 1955, Steve born March 10, 1957, and Daniel born March 29, 1961. They also had a daughter, Carrolle, born September 24, 1963. Hazel and Richard decided to try farming as a living and moved to Kirkland, IL in 1963. Hazel found being a farmer’s wife a little different than what she expected. When Chrysler opened in Belvidere, in 1966, Richard began working there while still maintaining the Kirkland farm. Soon after they moved back to Rockford in 1967.
On June 1, 2001, Richard passed away. Hazel married Floyd Pierce on October 15, 2002, in Rockford. Hazel especially enjoyed collecting antiques, traveling to Arizona in their motor home, and meeting new people while searching for that special treasure at any advertised antique auction or show.
Over the years, Hazel dedicated herself to be a primary homemaker for the family and was very committed to her children’s and grandchildren’s education. Hazel was a devoted member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and attended both the Rockford and Freeport churches.
Hazel is survived by her husband Floyd Pierce; her children Dennis Schroeder, Steve (Debbie) Schroeder, Daniel Schroeder, and Carrolle (Brian) Duncan; grandchildren Ryan, Sarah, Drew, Diana, Jason, Sean; and a great grandchildren Devin, James, Emma and Spencer.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Almon and Hazel Lapp.
