Harry “Burl” Johnson, 86, of Swisher, passed away on Monday, Oct. 10, 2022, at The Gardens of Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 14, 2022, at Shueyville United Methodist Church. Celebration of Life services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 14, 2022, at Shueyville United Methodist Church, with burial to follow in Anderson Cemetery in Swisher. Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids is in charge of arrangements.
Burl was born on Sept. 20, 1936, in Quasqueton, the son of Harry and Philoma (Bentley) Johnson. He graduated from Quasqueton High School, and shortly thereafter he entered the Army with his friend Ernie. Upon returning home, Burl was married to the love of his life, Marilyn Reagan, on Sept. 14, 1958, in Independence. They just celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary. He has worked at Allis Chalmers, John Deere, Harnischfeger and Penford/Ingredion, retiring in 2001. He enjoyed working in his yard and garden, as well as, and most of all, spending time with his loving family.
Burl is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn; son, Doug (Cherie) Johnson; grandchildren, Allison (George), Andrea (Warren), Jeremy and Dan; three great-grandchildren, Cruz, Kaylee and baby Kinzlee; his brother, Dean (Cindee); his sisters, Betty and Linda; his sister-in-law, Jean; as well as his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Jane on Aug, 28, 2021; two sisters, Diana and Beverly (Jerry); and his brother, Frank.
Memorials may be directed to your local animal shelter, to the Stead Family Children’s Hospital, or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in his name.
