Hannelore Wittmer
- November 2, 2021
Hannelore Wittmer, 69, of Ontario, passed away unexpectedly at her home.
Born August 18, 1952, in Rethmar, Germany, to the late Edmund and Maria (Lange) Wirschke, she emigrated to the United States in 1955. Hannelore graduated from Malabar High School in 1970 and was an area homemaker her entire life. She married Merrill Wittmer in 1973 and dedicated her energy to raising their three children. She donated her time freely, including sewing costumes and designing papier maché masks for school plays and chaperoning field trips. Hanna had a soft heart for animals and once brought home a litter of three week old orphan kittens from a school field trip to the Humane Society and bottle fed them until they could eat solid food. She found homes for two and kept the rest.
After her children were grown, Hanna enjoyed an active role in caring for her grandchildren whom she loved dearly. In her free time, she tended to her animals, gardens, crafting and reading.
Hannelore is survived by her husband of 48 years, Merrill Wittmer; three children, Christy (Chris Palmer) Wittmer, Bryan Wittmer, and Jami (Trevor) Gorrell; and four beloved grandchildren, Lilly, Leah, Evan and Emma Gorrell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Edwin Wirschke.
A private graveside service will be held in Mansfield Memorial Park. The Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors is honored to serve the family.
