H. Thomas “Tom” Roos, Jr., 82, of Palatine, formerly River Forest, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2022. Beloved husband of the late Sally Ann, nee Pohlman. Loving father to Elizabeth “Beth” (Daniel) Eernisse, Robert (Jodi) Roos and Carolyn (Scott) Rapoport. Cherished grandfather to Braden, Nathan, Tyler, Julia, Nora, Morgan, and Ethan. Tom will be deeply missed by many friends and family. Tom was born in Oak Park on January 27, 1940, to Harold T. and Dorothy L. Roos. He was a proud member of the Oak Park and River Forest High School Class of 1957 and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Class of 1961. While at Illinois, Tom served as President of the Beta Upsilon Chapter of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. Upon graduating from college, he began his advertising career at the Chicago Tribune, where he worked for 44 years before retiring in 2005. Throughout his life, he was active in the University of Illinois Alumni Association and was a passionate Illini and White Sox fan. In his retirement, he enjoyed playing the piano, managing his fantasy sports teams, collecting sports memorabilia, and supporting his children and grandchildren in their many pursuits. A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, May 28 from 10am-12pm with a memorial service beginning at Noon at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 185 E. Northwest Highway, Palatine, IL 60067. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Heart Association http://www2.heart.org/goto/ThomasRoos or the University of Illinois Alumni Association are appreciated.
