Gwen Lowe
Iowa City
Gwen Lowe passed away in January at the grand age of 95 in Madison, Wis. She will be missed.
Gwen grew up on a small farm in Illinois, the oldest child of Marjorie and Arnott Keating. Life on the farm was arduous during the depression and Gwen was happy to move into Monmouth for high school and college. She obtained her teaching degree at Monmouth College and after graduation, hopped on a train for Loveland, Colo., where she taught 2nd grade. It was in Loveland that Gwen met the love of her life, Jim Lowe. They soon married and relocated to lowa City with their 2 children, Kathy and Steve, and made a good life for themselves there for over 60 years.
Gwen was a charter member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church and it became the foundation of her friendships and service. She served in many capacities over the years, including Deacon and Elder. She was also active in PEO and volunteered for the University Hospital for 25 years. Gwen’s passions were her faith, her family (especially her grandsons Ian
and Jeff) and commitment to service. She loved to read, travel, walk with friends and visit with
her siblings Joyce, Bill and Linda.
Gwen will be remembered for her sweet smile, generous heart and her butter horn rolls!
She is survived by her daughter, Kathy and her husband, Vic, her grandsons Ian, Jeff and their
families, her daughter-in-law, Lori and beloved sister, Linda.
A small graveside service will be held in Iowa City in the spring for close friends and family.
ln honor of Gwen, please make a meal for someone in need.
