Gregory “Greg” J. Woods

Gregory “Greg” J. Woods, 73 of Springfield, died on Friday, April 23, 2021 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born September 5, 1947 in Springfield, to John P. and Francis Venable Woods. He married Lynn Edwards on May 28, 1972 and she survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Scott Woods of Maricopa, AZ, Eric (Lisa) Woods of Springfield and Kevin Woods of St. Louis, MO; four grandchildren, Hunter and Peyton Woods and Jake and Sam Stratton; one sister, Sheila (Dan) Ewald of Springfield and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two infant brothers.
Greg was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church. He loved wintering in Sun Lakes, AZ the past ten years. Golf was his favorite pastime, especially in AZ. He enjoyed cruises all over the world with Lynn. He volunteered many times at the Senior Services of Central IL and at St. Vincent de Paul Food Bank in AZ.
He retired as a Disability Claims Supervisor for the Department of Rehabilitation.
In his free time, he would get a Steak N Shake burger with his grandsons, Hunter, and Peyton, and fall asleep in his favorite chair.
Memorial Gathering: 12 – 2 pm, Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at Staab Funeral Home -Springfield.
Memorial Service: 2 pm, Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield. Inurnment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
