Gloria Jean  Darr

On Wednesday, April 19, 2023, Gloria Jean Darr, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, went to be with her Lord and Savior at the age of 87.  She passed away peacefully in the presence of family and under the loving care of Community Hospice.

Gloria was born on November 13, 1935, in Waco, TX to Joe and Annie (Dickson) Barton. She received her degree in education from the University of North Texas in Denton, TX and taught elementary school for over 30 years in Odessa, TX. On June 26, 1960, she married Hugh Gary Darr and raised a daughter, Robin and son, Mark.

Gloria cherished music, played the piano and sang beautifully. She was a gifted seamstress, who made her own wedding dress, beautiful clothes for her daughter and matching outfits for her granddaughter and her American Girl dolls. Loving acts such as these earned her the affectionate title of “ Mimi” to her beloved granddaughter , Hannah.

Gloria was passionate about travel and was thrilled to visit places around the world including Israel, Egypt, Europe, Australia, and China.

Gloria loved her church, First Baptist Church of Granbury.    As a devoted member, she volunteered her time to Vacation Bible School, after school Bible club, WMU, Cristo Roca Vida Mission and Habitat for Humanity. Her greatest desire was for all to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

The memory of Gloria’ s kindness, gentle spirit, and servant’ s heart will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Gloria is survived by her husband Gary Darr, daughter Robin Kennedy (Billy Kennedy) and son Mark Darr, granddaughter Hannah Taylor, sister Patricia Denson, nieces Anna Denson and Sammie Shelton and nephews Gary David Denson and Ryan Gibson.

Visitation will be held at Wiley Funeral Home, 400 E Highway 377 , Granbury, TX 76048 on Friday, April 21st from 7 :00 PM until 8 :00PM. Services will be held at First Baptist Church of Granbury, 1851 Weatherford Hwy, Granbury, TX 76048 on Saturday, April 22 nd at 3:00 PM. Burial will follow at Holly Hills Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First Baptist Church of Granbury and Samaritan’ s Purse.
