Giedre Gillespie

Giedre Gillespie (nee Griskenas), 83, of Chicago, passed away February 26, 2022. She was the cherished wife of Thomas; loving mother of Anne (Vincent) Shadis, Catherine (Brian Blakely) Gillespie and the late Peter Gillespie; devoted grandmother of Veronica and Vivian Shadis and Luca Blakely; beloved sister of George and John Griskenas; dear sister-in-law of Sean Griskenas and the late Phyllis Gillespie; and fond cousin of many family members in the U.S., Canada and Lithuania.
After a career as a math educator and computer analyst, in her retirement, she enjoyed traveling internationally with Thomas and her family. As a longtime member of the Dainava Chorus, she relished performing in song festivals in Lithuania and other concerts. Passionate about theater, she participated in many performances with the Žaltvykslė theater group and later wrote, directed and performed with the Lithuanian organization Korp!Giedra. In addition, she loved studying literature and learning languages such as Latin, Hebrew and Greek. Her family and friends will treasure the memory of her joyful spirit and warm and welcoming presence.
Visitation, Thursday, March 3, 2022 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home 6150 N. Cicero Ave., Chicago.
Funeral mass, Friday, March 4, 2022 at 11:00 am at St. Aloysius Catholic Church 2300 W. Le Moyne St., Chicago.
Interment at St. Adalbert Cemetery, Niles, Ill.
