Gertrude Evelyn Ellyson passed away Friday, Dec. 15, 2023, at The Village in Indianola at the age of 92. A visitation will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, 2024, with a Worship and Celebration of Life Service to follow at 3 p.m. in the Heritage Room at The Village in Indianola. There will also be a service at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 27, 2024, at the Whittier Friends Meeting House in Whittier, Iowa. Inurnment of cremains will be in the Whittier Friends Cemetery, Whittier, Iowa.

Gertrude Evelyn Hampton was born the daughter of Howard and Reva (Bedell) Hampton in Whittier, Iowa. She graduated from Scattergood Friends School in West Branch, Iowa, and attended Hamilton College in Cedar Rapids area. She was united in marriage to Robert Ellyson on Feb. 16, 1952, and to this union three sons were born, Ronald, Craig and James. They raised their family in Whittier. She worked as a bookkeeper for Charter Coaches, Inc. over the course of two decades. Following the death of her husband she moved to North Ft. Myers, Fla., for over 25 years where she volunteered with ECHO Global Farm empowering farming families across the globe.

In 2015 she moved to The Village in Indianola where she lived until her passing. She enjoyed Blue Grass Music, working with leather, stained glass, scrapbooks, cross stitch, her family genealogy, and puzzles. She enjoyed scheduled music and activities, playing Skip-Bo and Bingo at The Village.

She is survived by her sons, Ronald Ellyson, Craig (Ann) Ellyson and James (Karen) Ellyson; grandchildren, Anna (Michael) Clark, Abigail Ellyson Ashton, Daniel (Nathanael Treme-Ellyson) Ellyson, Timothy (Kasey) Ellyson, Steven Ellyson, Elizabeth (Colin) Peterson, Krista (Robert) Koster, Alexander Ellyson and Jonathan Ellyson; great-grandchildren, Ilsa, Kate, Emilia and Alice Clark, Josiah, Johnathon, Nathanial and Benjamin Ashton, Austin and Ava Ellyson, Noah and Eli Ellyson, Dane and Solon Peterson, Dylan and Nolan Koster; brothers, Lyle (Sue) Hampton and Lester Hampton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Ellyson, daughters-in-law, Gayla Ellyson and Christina Ellyson; parents, Howard and Reva Hampton and brother Wayne Hampton.

Memorials in her memory may be directed to Whittier Friends Meeting, ECHO, Scattergood Friends School or The Good Shepherd Fund at The Village.
