Gerald Raymond Alberhasky, 77, died peacefully Sunday, Dec. 17, 2023, at UIHC.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 29, 2023, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Iowa City. Visitation will be Thursday, Dec. 28, 2023, from 3:30 to 6 p.m. at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City. The rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. The service will be livestreamed on the St. Mary Catholic Church, Iowa City, YouTube page. Burial with Military Honors will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed St. Mary’s Catholic Church or the Regina Foundation.

Jerry was born April 22, 1946 in Iowa City, the son of John and Erma Marie Petrak Alberhasky. Jerry was a 1964 graduate of Regina High School and served in the U.S. Navy during in the Vietnam War.

On May 8, 1971, Jerry married Bette Foust in Iowa City.

Jerry was the co-owner of John’s Grocery, a family business founded in 1948.

Jerry was a lifelong member St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where he served as an usher and sang in the choir. Jerry was a St. Louis Cardinal and Iowa Hawkeye fan. He was a blood donor and organ donor. Jerry had a great smile, a great sense of humor, and loved great jokes.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Bette, and their two children, Jeremy “JJ” (Ellie) Alberhasky and Jennifer Alberhasky, both of Iowa City; two grandchildren, Atticus and Waits Alberhasky; five siblings, Joan (Gerald) Vandevoort of Paradise Valley, Ariz., Ronald (Linda) Alberhasky of Coralville, Tim (Joan) Alberhasky of Clive, Beverly (Dean) Miller and Lora (Randy) Miller, both of Iowa City; in-laws, Barb (Steve) Sauser, Cindy (Pat) Veach, Mary Sue (Michael) Dumas and Chuck (Sheri) Foust; sister-in-law, Linda Foust; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, William and his wife, Sheila; his in-laws, Quinten and Jean Foust; brother-in-law, Mike Foust, and his nephews, Keith Foust and Colin Dumas.
