George L. Lang, Sr.

George L. Lang, Sr., 83, of Springfield, passed away at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at Springfield Memorial Hospital. He was born in Anderson, IN on July 4, 1938, the son of Francis and June (Smith) Lang. He married Aspasia “Sonia” Anyfanpaki on November 26, 1961 and she survives.
Also surviving are his two sons, John (Kathy) Lang of Rosamond, CA and George “Leo” (Sharon) Lang, Jr. of Chatham; five grandchildren, Hope and Cole Lang, Justin (Alyssa) Kennett, Ashley (Mike) Hubble, and Kaitlyn (Alex) Hayes; two great grandchildren, Abigail and Josiah; two sisters, Nancy Johnson and Jean (Jerry) Rummel, both of Indiana and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Rita Lang, and two brothers, Tom and Don Lang.
George was a United States Air Force veteran serving during the Vietnam War and then retiring after twenty years of service.
Following retirement from the Air Force, George went on to receive his master’s degree in Education and Horticulture. He began to teach science and then went to work for Pleasant Nursery as a horticulturist, mainly being known as the “Tree Doctor”.
George was very active in the Boy Scouts with the accomplishment of himself, his sons, and his grandson all achieving Eagle Scouts Status. Although it was never published, George loved to write and has written a book over 1,000 pages, but most of all George’s biggest enjoyment was being a family man and being in their company. He will be dearly missed.
Visitaiton: 10 – 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.
Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield with Father George Pyle officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where miltary honors will be conducted.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Abraham Lincoln Council Boy Scouts of America, 5231 S. 6th Street Road, Springfield, IL 62703.
