Gary P. Childs, 67, of Mansfield, passed away at his home on Friday, February 26, 2021.
Gary was born in Wheeling, West Virginia on January 9, 1954. He was the son of Joseph and Betty (Zink) Childs. Gary retired from General Motors where he was a tool and die maker. He was a very loving husband, proud father and dotting grandfather. He had a love of cars that started at a young age. He began drag racing at the age of 16 and shared this love with his children. They joined him and began to race with him. Gary loved Corvettes, and owned a 1993 red 40th Anniversary. He loved attending car shows, collecting car memorabilia, and corvette promos. Gary loved watching American Pickers, which made his love for antiques even stronger. He loved shopping for antiques and finding toy shows.
Gary leaves behind many cherished memories with his wife, Rose Mary (Collins) Childs; his children, Tracy (Chris) Slone, Joe (fiancé, Alicia) Childs, and Lindsey (Earl) Haberfield; his grandchildren, Ashley, Addison and Avery Slone, Elijah and Ezra Childs, and Alivia and Jack Johnson; his sister, Connie (Mike) Kidwell; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister.
Family and friends may visit from 5:00-7:00 pm on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington Springmill Road. Pastor Kevin Evans will officiate the funeral service at the funeral home beginning at 11:00 am on Wednesday, March 3, 2021. Gary will be laid to rest at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Shiloh.
