Fred I. Labus

Fred I. Labus, 75, of New Philadelphia, passed away Thursday, December 2, 2021 at the Cleveland Clinic Main Campus from complications due to COVID.
Fred was born November 14, 1946 at Dover, Ohio to Katherine (Mutersbaugh) Athey and the late Ralph E. Labus. He was a 1966 graduate of New Philadelphia High School. On June 20, 1970, he married Marcia (Brick) Labus and together they shared over 51 years of marriage.
Most of his professional career was selling semi-truck parts for a number of local trucking companies. Following his retirement, Fred worked as a custodian for the First United Methodist Church at New Philadelphia and the former Skate Place.
Fred was Christian by faith. He survived Polio as a young child. In his younger years, he loved to assemble model cars detailing them with fabric interiors. He was an avid car lover. He enjoyed watching NHRA Drag Races and taking his great-nieces to area cars shows. He adored spending time with his wife going roller skating, square and line dancing and riding motorcycles. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and a good cup of McDonald’s coffee.
In addition to his mother and wife, he is survived by his sister-in-law Barbara (Jack) Lewis; his niece, Lori (Steve) Beans; his great-nieces, Ashley and Kaeley Beans, two sisters-in-law, Jackie Labus and Janet Hunker and families.
In addition to his father, Fred was preceded in death by his step-father, Jack Athey, and two brothers, Ralph L. Labus and John Hunker.
Visitation will be held Thursday, December 9, 2021 from 9:30 to 11 AM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home at New Philadelphia where a service will begin at 11 AM with Pastor Brian Flood officiating. In keeping with his wishes, following the service Fred is to be cremated through the care of Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory.
