Father Robert J. Busher, age 80, of Davenport, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at the Kahl Home. A Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Davenport. A visitation will be held from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m., prior to the Mass. Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 24, 2024, in St. Patrick Cemetery, Watkins, Iowa. Memorials may be made to the Priest Aid Society in his memory. Robert was born on September 23, 1944, the son of Emmett and Hilda (Becker) Busher in Watkins. Robert graduated from St. Ambrose College in Davenport and later earned his theological degree from the University of St. Thomas in Rome, Italy, where he made a lifelong friend, Cardinal Timothy Dolan, who visited just five days before his passing. He was ordained on July 17, 1976, at St. Mary Parish in Williamsburg. Father Bob pastored to the communities of Clinton, East Pleasant Plain, Richland, Iowa City, Oskaloosa, Davenport, and Wilton. Father Busher dedicated his life to the priesthood, ministering to countless people throughout his life, continuing to serve faithfully until his final days.
Known for his compassion, wisdom, and unwavering faith, he was a beloved figure within the communities he served. He was known for his warm spirit, always ready to offer a kind word or a listening ear. Father Bob will always be remembered for his sense of humor and his gift of hospitality.
Father Bob will be lovingly remembered by his sister-in-law, Marilyn Busher of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a niece, Dee (Dan) Baty of Cedar Rapids; a nephew, Steven Busher of California; great nieces, Nicole, Alixandra, Maria; and great nephews, Harrison and David.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Lyle Busher.
