Everett Allen Weaver, 75, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, April 12, 2023. In agreement with his wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will greet friends and family from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 17, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 18, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, located at 915 27th St., in Marion. A private committal service for the family will take place at a later date at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City, Iowa.
Everett was born on June 5, 1947, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Leland and Bernita (Haines) Weaver. He was a 1965 graduate of Marion High School and went on to attend Marshalltown Community College. On Aug. 17, 1969, Everett was united in marriage to Kay Ellen Behrens, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, in Center Point, Iowa. Together they had a son and daughter.
Everett was a proud veteran who served during the Vietnam War as a Radioman, 2nd Class for the U.S. Navy. He went on to become a dedicated firefighter for the City of Marion for over 25 years and retired as a Captain. While working at the fire department, he also worked part-time for Marion Iron. Upon his retirement in 1999, he continued to work full-time for Marion Iron. He loved to cook for the firefighters and enjoyed fishing and golfing. Everett was a 50-year plus, active member of the Marion American Legion Post 298. Everett will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Everett is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Kay Weaver of Marion; son, Jeff (Carrie) Weaver of Noblesville, Ind.; daughter, Jennifer (James) Hancox of Marion; six grandchildren, Emerson Weaver, Ella Weaver, Ashton Weaver, Josephine Hancox, Jasper Hancox and Jarrett Hancox; two step-grandchildren, Zack and Zander Knuckles; two sisters, Deloris Webber and Helen Taylor, both of Marion; brother, Darrel (Rose) Weaver of Central City, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Diana Goldsworth and Esther Graham.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Everett’s memory may be directed to the Marion Fire Department at 3933 Katz Dr., Marion, IA 52302.
