Eugene “Gene” Francis Sherman, 73, of Alburnett, Iowa, passed away on Friday, August 30, 2024, at his home in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The family will greet friends from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 6, 2024, at the funeral home, officiated by Certified Celebrant, Amy Hart. Burial will take place at a later date at Lafayette Cemetery in Alburnett, Iowa.
Gene was born on June 20, 1951, in Cedar Rapids, the son of William “Bill” and Dorothy (Stimson) Sherman. He attended school in Walker and Marion. He went on to be a part of Discovery Living, where they were instrumental in helping Gene live his best life possible. He also enjoyed his time spent at Camp Courageous. Gene loved Scooby Doo, dinosaurs, going to movies, his beads, superheroes, and spending time with his special friend, Vicki. He had a deep love for animals, especially dogs. Often, he would feed the ducks and birds and found great joy in flower gardens. Gene will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Gene is survived and lovingly remembered by his brothers, Kenneth (Rosie) Sherman of Blue Grass, Iowa, Richard (Kay) Sherman of Searcy, Arkansas, and Keith (Stacey) Sherman of Des Moines, Iowa; sister, Helen (Dave) Franklin of Weiser, Idaho; and numerous extended family, including nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; nephew, Brent Sherman; and sisters-in-law, Carmen Sherman and Amber Sherman.
