Erwin “Ernie” Evans, 78, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Saturday, June 22, 2024, at Mercy Medical Center. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 28, 2024, 11:00 am, at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories in Cedar Rapids, with a visitation beginning prior, at 10:00 am. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Erwin was born on December 4, 1945, in Wellington, Kansas, the son of Ernest and Anna Evans. He graduated from Caldwell High School in Kansas in 1963, and from Cowley County Vo-tech in 1965. He was united in marriage to Joyce Barondeau in 1966, and three children were brought into the family, Charlotte, Patrick, and Kathleen. He divorced and married Kathleen (Anderson) Williams on May 6, 1989 In Cedar Rapids and became a blended family.

Ernie started working at Rockwell-Collins in 1967, retiring in 2008 after 41 years as a test technician.

Ernie was an intellectual knowledge seeker, loved to read a wide variety of books, especially historical, Western genres, and Chicago mob history. He returned to school at Mount Mercy in 1996 to obtain an accounting degree. He traveled with his wife, Kathy, to various locations, including a beloved trip to Iceland. Ernie loved to cook, especially Christmas cookies which was shared with friends and family. He was a den leader for Boy Scouts, 10 years as a bus driver at Cedar Rapids Prairie, and a longtime member of the Elks Club. Ernie enjoyed telling stories of his childhood, and took pride in his grandchildren. He will be missed by those who loved and knew him.

Survivors include: his children Charlotte (Andy) Schuchart, Patrick (Jennifer) Evans, and Kathleen (Joshua) Moliter; stepdaughter, Traci Williams (Kathy). His mother, Anna (Lepard ) Evans, eight grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, along with three brothers, Dwaine, Lee and Stanley.

Preceded in death by his wife Kathleen, first wife, Joyce, and father, Ernest.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
