Eric John Grove

Eric John Grove, age 43, of Ontario, passed away Saturday, February 26, 2022, at Avita Health System-Ontario Hospital. He was affectionately known as “Grover” throughout his life.

He was born August 4, 1978, in Bucyrus, Ohio, graduated from Ontario High School in 1997 and Ashland University in 2003. Eric was currently an Academic Advisor at North Central State College for the past 17 years and impacted student’s lives in a most powerful way. Prior to his academic career, Eric worked at Mowry’s Concessions, as a counselor at Happy Hollow Camp and as a middle school football coach immediately following his graduation from Ontario. He was also a driver education teacher for Lew Petit Driving School.

Eric was a member of the Ontario Civil Service Commission for the past 3 years. He was the “Voice of the Warriors” at football and basketball games and was a very proud lifelong supporter of Ontario high school athletics and education. He was an avid football fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland Browns. A big man known for his big heart, he was always helping someone. His kindness and giving nature will remain a legacy for those whose lives he touched.

Eric is survived by his mother, Deborah “Debby” Kay (Kalb) Grove; father, John (Megan) Grove; sister, Krista Grove; grandparents, Anne and Steve Fisher; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; and close friend, Brett “Bubby” Gallagher. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Donald and Joyce Grove and Donald and Donna Kalb; and cousin, Brett Geissman.

The family will receive friends from 2:00-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 6, 2022, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. The funeral service will be held in Ontario United Methodist Church, 3540 Park Avenue West, on Monday at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Christine Bell officiating. Additional visitation will be held beginning at 10:00 a.m. He will be laid to rest in Crawford County Memory Gardens. The family encourages everyone to wear Ontario school or Ohio State gear in memory of Eric’s love of the teams.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ontario Athletics.
