Edwin H. McVay, 87, of rural Urbana, passed away December 25, 2024. A visitation will be held from 1-3 PM, Saturday, January 4, 2025, with the funeral following at 3:00 PM, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Edwin was born on October 16, 1937, in Viola, Iowa, the son of Herbert and Marie (Furler) McVay. He was united in marriage to Beverly Jane Attwood on June 9, 1957, in Walker, Iowa. Edwin was a lifelong farmer in the Urbana area. Edwin enjoyed raising and caring for his animals. He had a lifelong love for John Deere tractors and worked on restoring them, and other makes, after his retirement. Edwin worked for several companies, including B. L. Anderson, LeFebure, Perfex, Iowa Specialties and Alliant Railcar. He also worked as a hired hand at many farms. Edwin enjoyed the outdoors and liked camping and bonfires. He loved his wife and family very much and always looked forward to attending his grandchildren’s activities. Edwin will be remembered as a kind, tender-hearted man.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-seven years, Beverly of rural Urbana; children, William (Sheryl) McVay of Urbana, Edward McVay of Shellsburg, Kristine (Richard) Cihla of Cedar Rapids, and David McVay (Heather Dougherty) of rural Urbana; ten grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and a brother, Ron (Cathie) McVay of rural Alburnett.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a grandson; a great-granddaughter; and a sister, Karen Schmidt; and a daughter-in-law, Angie McVay.
Memorials may be directed to Zion Lutheran Church in Shellsburg or Hospice of Mercy.
