Edith “Edie” Brown, was born on May 2nd, 1953 in Springfield, VT. Growing up in New England she enjoyed skiing, sailing, getting into mischief, and playing practical jokes together with her brother and friends.
She graduated from St. Margaret’s High School in 1972 and attended Cornell College in Mount Vernon, IA, receiving her bachelor’s degree in 1976. After college she settled down in Eastern Iowa. She received her Master of Social Work from the University of Iowa. She married Victor Kimberling on March 31st, 1984. Together they had a son, Zachary. She worked as a social worker for the Iowa Department of Human Services and later for St. Luke’s Hospital. In addition, she helped on the farm.
Her main interests were cooking, shotguns, single malt whiskies, and wines. Her hobbies included golf, shooting sporting clays, and traveling around the world. She began to learn German and took private lessons in preparation for her son’s wedding in Germany. She also did volunteer work in Iowa, such as church food pantry.
After her divorce she moved to Northern Michigan. She did volunteer work with Rotary and spent several years working at Mawby Winery. She was passionate about her dogs.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jeremy Brown and Hope Nesbit Brown.
She is survived by Jay (Lisa) Brown (brother), Zachary Kimberling (son), Jenny Kimberling (daughter-in-law), and Riley (best friend: her chocolate lab,).
The visitation, service and scattering of ashes was December 18, 2024, in Charlevoix, MI. A celebration of life will be planned for later in the spring.
