E. LaVerne McKean, age 96, of New Philadelphia, died Thursday, April 22, 2021, in Schoenbrunn Health Care Center following a brief period of declining health.
Born on September 28, 1924, in Follansbee, West Virginina, LaVerne was the daughter of the late Alfred and Agnes (Morrision) Bittner and was raised by the late John Quincy and Elizabeth Adamson.
LaVerne was a 1943 graduate of the former Tuscarawas-Warwick High School. She was a longtime member of Sharon Moravian Church and a sales associate with the former Fisher’s Big Wheel at Uhrichsville.
LaVerne is survived by her son, John D. (Melody) McKean of New Philadelphia; her grandchildren, John McKean, II, Eric McKean, Brenton (Jen) Carr, Darcie Carr, Sean Carr, Ed Corpman, Dustin Corpman, and Kelly McMillen, numerous great-grandchildren; special family members, Shirley Mae Henry and Frank Adams, whom she thought of as a son; her son-in-law, Lloyd Carr, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, LaVerne was preceded in death by her husband, John L. “Jack” McKean; a daughter, Jody L. Carr; a son, Edwin L. McKean; her siblings, Marion Apple, Marie Rohrbaugh, Marcella Kress, Alvana Sefton, Chuck Bittner, Al Bittner, and Jim Bittner.
A private graveside service will be held in the Sharon Moravian Church Cemetery at New Philadelphia.
