Doris Marie Gilson, 85, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Silver Oak Nursing Center in Marion. Celebration of Life Services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 16, 2025, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW in Cedar Rapids. Friends may visit one hour prior to services Thursday at Brosh. Burial will be in Czech National Cemetery.

Doris was born June 15, 1940, in Solon, the daughter of Frank and Rose Shima. She was proud to be a hard working “farm girl” as well as being Czec

She enjoyed cooking, going to garage sales, yard work, and bingo. The past few years as Doris battled dementia were challenging. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Silver Oaks for the exceptional and family-like

support for Doris.

Doris is survived by her children Scott (Lin

da) Pospisil, Penny (Keith) Shedek and Julie Lavrenz; her brother Leo (Elaine) Shima; eleven grandchildren;

seventeen great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ron Gilson, and the father of her children Marvin Pospisil.
