Doris M. Ray, 61, of Riverton, died at 2:47 pm, Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at Springfield Memorial Hospital. She was born September 23, 1961 in Breese, IL, to Leo “Buster” and Lorine (Albers) Schmidt. She married Michael Stephen Ray on April 23, 1983 and he survives.
Also surviving are her daughter, Alicia (Garrett) Harney of Springfield; two grandchildren, Sophia, and Noah Harney; mother, Lorine Schmidt of Breese; two sisters, Nancy (John) Schomaker of New Baden and Karen (John) Sander of Jefferson City, MO; two nieces, Lisa (Kevin) Hammond and Sarah (Jeremy) Richter; three nephews, Christopher (Danielle) Schomaker, Christopher Scherle, and Tyler Scherle and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father; one nephew, Bret Sander, and Aunt Gertie Wurm.
Doris has been a resident of Riverton since 1984 and was a homemaker.
She was a member of St. James Church in Riverton and a past member of Ladies Auxiliary for Knights of Columbus.
Doris was a True Crime lover and enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandkids.
Visitation: 4-7 pm, Monday, November 21, 2022 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield. A vigil prayer service will be held at 4 pm.
Lie-In-State: 9:30 – 10:45 am Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.
Funeral Mass: 11:00 am, Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception with Reverend Dominic Vahling and Reverend Raphael Paul DeMoreno officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association or to the Animal Protective League.
