Doris E. Lynch
West Branch
Doris E. Lynch, 95, of West Branch, passed away Friday, May 19, 2023, at the Crestview Specialty Care surrounded by her family.
Doris Evelyn Dewey was born on May 4, 1928, to Albert and Carrie (Fout) Dewey in Graham Township, Johnson County, Iowa. Doris attended rural schools in Johnson County and later attended Commercial College in Iowa City. On Feb. 5, 1948, she married Hubert F. Lynch and moved to the Lynch Family Farm she and Hubert owned in Cedar County.
Doris and Hubert farmed their entire married life raising traditional farm animals and crops. After transitioning from traditional farming they raised guinea pigs for research and pets. At the height of their business, which afforded them many adventures and new friends, they managed over 2000 animals.
After the death of her husband Hubert Lynch in 2003, Doris moved to a house built by her sons in West Branch where she was active in quilting, cards, and volunteering at Crestview. On weekends she returned to the farm, to spend time at a small cabin on a pond built by her son Larry. Anyone who knew Doris knew her love and knowledge of animals, especially frogs.
Doris is survived by four sons and two daughters, Marsha Howe, Dale (Conni) Lynch, Sharon (Kurtis) Voparil, Wayne (Deb) Lynch, Steve (Cindy) Lynch and Larry (Amy) Lynch, all of West Branch; 11 grandchildren; and 15, soon to be, 16 great-grandchildren.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hubert Lynch; her brothers, Lawrence and Charles; and five sisters, Alice, Mary, Nellie, Annie and Gladys.
Visitation will be held 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 23, at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Branch. Funeral Mass 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 24, at St. Bernadette Catholic Church in West Branch. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery, Cedar Valley. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.hendersonbarkerfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Doris Lynch Memorial Fund.
