Donna “Mama Z” Zahorik, 76, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Monday, July 29, 2024.
Donna Nadine Baird was born October 23, 1947, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the daughter of Donald Baird and Helen (McCreery) Baird, later Briggs. She graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1965 and loved being the best Bulldog ever. She met the love of her life, Charley Zahorik in 1974, and enjoyed being a homemaker for many years, having family holiday get-togethers where her home was always decorated so special for the event; interior decorating and finding the perfect piece to complete the look she envisioned; getting her hands dirty gardening and enjoying the life of her favorite plants and flowers coming to bloom; and feeding all of her animal friends in her backyard oasis. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Angie and Joe Barton and granddaughter, Paige and Thomas II Slaughter, and great grandchildren, Thomas III, Zachary and Ellie Slaughter; daughter, Dawn Hobart, granddaughter, Nadine Hobart and great grandson, Langston Clark; grandson, Jackson DeForest; son, Dustin and Michele Crumes, granddaughter, Taylor Crumes and great granddaughter, Myla, and granddaughter, Aubriana and Tyler Gail. The family would also like to recognize Sean Crumes, Kyle Cobb, and Curt Barton for always chipping away at her never-ending honey-do list. As well, Mama Z had many special family and friends who she cherished interacting with on social media.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Bunny Jean, husband Charley Zahorik, and grandson, Denver Parvin, and her two Yorkie fur babies, Gibbs & Louie. We take comfort in knowing Charley and Mom are together again and on their eternal Caribbean voyage.
