Donald Lynn Kirkpatrick passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2023, at Mountain Vista Medical Center in Mesa, Ariz., at the age of 81.

Donald Lynn Kirkpatrick was born May 28, 1941, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Homer and Dorotha (Long) Kirkpatrick. He graduated from English Valley High School, North English, in 1958 and Parsons College, Fairfield, in 1962. Don served in the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Sill, Okla., from 1963-1965. He then returned to North English and worked as the bookkeeper in the family business, Kirkpatrick Feed Mill. He later earned his real estate license specializing in farmland. He spent many years as a farm manager. Don was very active in politics and served on county committees and as a delegate to state conventions. He was elected to serve on the Williamsburg City Council from 1996 through 2015. He really enjoyed these 20 years and as he often said, “It’s my way of giving something back to our community.”

Don was united in marriage to Donna Marie Gardner on June 7, 1969, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in North English. The couple lived in Williamsburg all their married life. In the summer Don and Donna enjoyed sailing having started on Lake MacBride, then Saylorville, and in later years Lake Michigan and Lake Superior. After sailing for 25 years they sold their boat and started wintering in Arizona and did so for 22 years. They always looked forward to seeing their many new friends, having family and friends visit, and exploring the many interesting sights of that state.

Don was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Fourth Degree Knights and served on the Parish Council.

Don and Donna found road trips fun. They vacationed in many states, including Hawaii. Their travels also took them to Canada, Europe, Africa, South America, the Caribbean, and Italy (Rome and Assisi).

Don is survived by Donna, his loving wife of 53 years; his sister, Darlene Popham of Maidens, Va.; and many nephews, nieces, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Marilyn Garringer; a brother, Larry Kirkpatrick; a sister-in-law, Betty Kirkpatrick; and two brothers-in-law, Vernon Garringer and Gene Popham.

Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 24, 2023, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Williamsburg. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery.
