Cedar Rapids
Donald Lee Palmer, the cherished son of Robert and Joan Palmer, passed away on October 6, 2025. He made the difficult decision to end his life after experiencing the profound loss of his father. Don was known for his gentle and quiet nature, and the depth of his pain may never be fully understood by those who loved him.
The family is being supported by Morris Funeral Home in Guttenberg as they navigate this difficult time. In accordance with the family’s wishes, Don’s body will be cremated, and there will be no public service.
Born on June 26, 1967, Don was the youngest of three boys adopted by Robert and Joan Palmer. He spent his childhood growing up on the family farm and later graduated from Clayton Ridge High School in Guttenberg.
After completing his education, Don began working for Rockwell Collins – Collins Aerospace in Cedar Rapids, where he remained until his retirement.
Don had a deep passion for vehicles, especially older models that he enjoyed restoring. His love for riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle was well known, and he devoted years to participating in the four-wheel racing circuit. Don was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need and was admired for his kindness. He shared a close bond with his father, frequently dividing his time between his home in Cedar Rapids and the family farm, where he and his dad worked side by side.
The passing of Don is a heartbreaking loss to all who knew him. He is survived by his brothers, Michael and Mark, as well as his nephews, Matthew and Trevor, and his niece Jody. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Joan Palmer, and his grandparents, Raymond and Dorothy Palmer and Lawrence and Frances Heller.
