Donald E. Ickes

Donald E. Ickes, age 75, of Uhrichsville, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, at his residence after a period of declining health.
Don was born on May 26, 1946, in Dennison, Ohio to the late Roy and Gladys (Seldenright) Ickes.
He was a 1964 graduate of Midvale High School, where he played baseball, basketball, and football. Don then continued his education at Fairmont State College where he also played football. He graduated from Fairmont State College in 1968. Following his graduation from college, Don taught English for 20 years; during that time, he enjoyed coaching both football and track. He then began a 33-year career as an owner/operator truck driver. His CB handle was “The Professor”.
In his free-time, Don had a passion for fishing, being outdoors, working on his tree farm, and being with animals. Having never met a stranger, he also enjoyed making new friends and talking with life long friends for hours on end. Additionally, he was a long-time member of the Tusco Rifle Club.
Don is survived by his wife of 41 years, Sandra (Carter) Ickes; his children, Shelly Morvay, of Hilliard, Ohio, Michael (Kathryn) Ickes, of Chesterland, Ohio; grandchildren, Sophia Morvay, Nathan (Hannah) Ickes, Matthew Ickes, and Noah Ickes; his siblings, Robert (Patricia) Ickes, Al Ickes, Dale (Alice) Ickes, and Mildred Weaver; his brother-in-law, Virgil (Cathy) Carter; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Don is preceded in death by his brothers-in-law, Gary Carter and Ronald Weaver; a special niece, Saundra Wilson and a sister-in-law, Joy Ickes.
In keeping with Don’s wishes, private services will be held with cremation to be conducted through the care of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Pan Foundation, www.panfoundation.org/ways-to-give/. This foundation provides financial assistance for chemotherapy drugs being taken at home.
