SOAR HIGH SISTER
TO THE FATHER
(A tribute to Melchorita
“Dolly Alfar Samson)
[01-06-41⭐️06-23-21]
I can still hear your sweet
Unrestrained laughter in fun
As we exchanged teases and
Banters, so animated and alive,
So fresh to relive, so beautiful to
Sweetly recall. Now you are gone
Sister, so quick, so sudden without
Even saying: “So long and goodbye”
Recently, I shared with you a poem
One of the few that I sent you, and
You liked it enough to praise me that
Made me happy so profusely. Now,
There is a feeling of angst and
Emptiness as I remember sweet
Memories of the bygone days,
The joyful years, now wet with tears.
Early on, as you breezed through
In chasing your star, you had your
Share of pain in struggle and trials
Triumphantly extricating from
Awesome challenges in seeing your
Dream metamorphosed into reality
Braving and daring odds, crossing
Chasms and lifting boulders.
In joyful badger, you were given by
Our Papa a monicker: “Atty. Dolying”
As like a Jack of all Trades you were
A problem solver, a ready hand, a
Generous heart, and guts that never
Dimmed and cower, a calculating
Mind and a disarming smile that
Would melt anyone’s anger.
Distance and health are big gorges
That deny us: Inday Adie, NicoEllen,
Dinah and myself to be there in your
Very private wake to have a glimpse
Of you before you finally go.
Consolingly, sweet Annie is there to
Be with you. What must have been in
Your unshared thoughts are yours,
Swept into the dustbin of oblivion,
None ever to be known.
As life is a cycle and in our given
Time it inevitably reaches its ending,
Leaving all that we possess, nothing
To carry even treasured memories.
Yet, each in us, embossed in mind
And heart, your name Melchorita,
Dolly to your friends and family will
Lastingly sweetly stay. Adieu sister!
Since it must be so, God calling you.
ROLANDO B. ALFAR
May you rest easy in grace and love, cousin Dolly. We will miss you 💕🙏
