Derek C. Summers, 47, of Anamosa passed away on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at Jones Regional Medical Center in Anamosa. Derek gave the ultimate gift of life through the unselfish act of organ donation.

A Celebration of Life will be held on November 18, 2023 from 1:00-4:00 pm in the basement of the Anamosa American Legion located at 300 Chamber Court in Anamosa. Derek’s family would like to invite everyone to share memories and celebrate his life.

Derek Charles was born on April 27, 1976 in Anamosa to Charles Summers and Cindy (Bickford) Summers. He graduated from Anamosa High School in 1994 and attended Kirkwood Community College. On November 13, 2004 he was united in marriage to Joleen Zeltner. For several years he worked at Iowa Medical Correctional Center, United States Postal Service and Swick Cable Contractors. Even though Derek didn’t always attend church regularly he did have a strong faith and was baptized at Antioch Christian Church in Marion. Derek was a member of the Olin School Board for over three years and had training in OSHA. He was an athlete of all sports but especially had a love for baseball and men’s slow-pitch softball. Derek loved being a dad and would attend his children’s events. He enjoyed spending time with his son Beau no matter what they were doing.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children; Rayanne (Nick Childress) Zeltner of Anamosa, Beau Summers of Olin, mother Cindy (Steve) Wolmutt of Anamosa, his father Charles (Marci) Summers of Olin, his grandmothers; Darlene Bickford of Anamosa, Shirley Wolmutt of Central City, Lorna Voss of Anamosa, two sisters; Nycole (Tom) Ganzhorn of Woodbine, Felicia Summers, a brother Joshua Summers, his wife Joleen Zeltner, and mother-in-law Marlene Levsen all of Olin.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents; Arnold Bickford, Wilbur (JR) Summers, Roseanne Hitchcock, John Voss and James Wolmutt and a brother Lance Wolmutt.
