Dennis Scott Wermager, 79, of Marion, Iowa passed away at home with his loving wife Lydia, after suffering from a short illness. Visitation will be held Friday, June 28th, 2024, from 5-7 PM at the Cedar Memorial Chapel Stateroom. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 29th, 2024, at 10 AM in the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home (Main Bldg), with visitation one hour prior to services. A livestream of the funeral service may be accessed on the funeral home website under the obituary for Dennis Scott Wermager, under the video tab starting at 10 AM, Saturday, June 29th. Burial will follow the service and take place at the grave site.

Dennis Scott Wermager was born November 16, 1944, in Decorah, Iowa, the son of Grant Palmer Wermager and Cleytus Veronica Casey. Scott grew up in Marion, Iowa, and graduated from Marion High School in 1963. Shortly, thereafter, he joined the United States Marine Corps. Scott proudly served his country for 4 years and is a Vietnam Veteran. Scott became an electrician and was a member of the IBEW Local 405 Electrical Union for 50 years.

Scott was united in marriage to Lydia Oquendo on July 1, 1988, in Norwich, Connecticut. Shortly after, they moved to Marion, Iowa and shared 36 wonderful years of marriage. Scott enjoyed dancing with his wife whenever he had the chance as well as traveling, hunting with his family, and fishing with family and friends on the Mississippi River. Scott was also a member of the American Legion 0298 in Marion.

Scott’s Family and Friends are heartbroken, and he will be missed more than words can even begin to express. Despite the past few years of health issues, he was still a jokester, always had a smile on his face and kept a positive attitude about life. He was an absolutely wonderful man, he was everyone’s friend, and he was definitely the love of Lydia’s life.

Survived by his wife, Lydia; his son, Bryan (Katie) of Lakeville, MN; his daughter, Brandi of Marion, IA; his stepson Robert (Stephen) of Pembroke Pines, FL; his stepson Joe (Chrissy) of North Port, FL; his brother Lyle (Mary Lou) of Cedar Rapids, IA; his brother Steve (Julie) of Robins, IA. He has five beautiful grandchildren, Colton, Madisyn, Leo, Elsie and Palmer. He also has countless nieces and nephews who all meant the world to him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Harold “Bud” and sister in-law, Ruby, by his brother Gordy and sister in-law, Betty, and his brother Robert “Bob” Wermager, and by his sister, Jan and brother in-law, Phil Cooper.
