Delos “Del” Eggers, 98, of Iowa City died on Tuesday, September 17 at Legacy Point.
Del donated his body to the University of Iowa Deeded Body Program. Burial will be held at a later date in Oakland Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to United Way of Johnson County.
Del was born October 24, 1925, in Belmond, Iowa, the son of Wilbur and Jeanette Benson Eggers. He graduated from Grinnell College with a Bachelor of Arts degree. During World War II, Del served in the Army Air Corps as an aviation cadet.
He married Lauretta “Lolly” Parker on September 1, 1951, in Grinnell, Iowa. She died in 2021.
Del lived in Iowa City since 1950. He worked as a supervisor for the order department of Moore Business Forms, now RR Donnelly, retiring in 1989 after 34 years.
He was active with Babe Ruth baseball, assisting with coaching and serving on the board of directors including president. He was involved with the Iowa City Bowling Association and is a member of the Hall of Fame.
Survivors include his sons, Kim of Holland, Michigan and Kelly and his wife Jane of Tiffin, Iowa; his grandchildren Gabriel, Jamie, Tony, Patrick and Kendra; his great grandchildren and numerous cousins, and extended family members.
He was also preceded in death by his wife and son Kevin, his parents and several cousins.
