Delbert Earl Eichel

Delbert Earl Eichel, age 83, of New Philadelphia, passed away early Sunday, October 2, 2022, in his residence following a period of declining health.

Born on November 10, 1938, in the family’s New Philadelphia home, Delbert was the 10th of 12 children born to the late Omar and Florance Reichman Eichel.

He attended New Philadelphia High School and honorably served his country as a member of the United States Army from 1961-1963. In 1974, Delbert joined Watson Brothers Construction as a mason and as the company transitioned to R.A. Watson Excavating, he became a heavy equipment operator, retiring from the firm in 2000 following 26 years of service.

Delbert was a hard worker who enjoyed working with his hands. While he never sat for long, he enjoyed taking time out to watch the birds and deer in his yard, spend time outdoors hunting and fishing, and spend time with his family and grandchildren. Many summers were spent at Pike’s Peak Campground near Kimbolton where he had a keen ability to command the campfire. He also spent many nights playing and cheating at card games and was known for carrying candy in his pockets, reading various bird books, and reading volume after volume of the Encyclopedia.

He will be missed by his wife of 32 years, the former Tammy Page whom he married on March 25, 1990; his children, Cindy (Alan) Coffman, and Tim Eichel; his step-children, Chuckie (Michelle) Woods, Delbie (Jenn) Woods, and Missy (Ken) Milburn; grandchildren, DezaRae (Justin), Liesl (Zach), Courtney, Jon, Alexis, Caleb, Gage, Lucas, Kryscena, Lilly, and Ellie; his great-grandchildren, Vincent, Hazel, and an expected great-grandchild.

Completing the family are his sister, Betty Nealey; his mother-in-law, Shirley Grafe and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Delbert was preceded in death by his siblings, Sonny, Wilma, Anna Marie, Peter, Berenice, Bob, Faye, Carl, Richard, and Carol.

In keeping with Delbert’s wishes, there will be no public visitation or services. Cremation care is being handled by the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia.
