Debra Ann Gabrielson Lee died peacefully at home on Wednesday, August 28, 2024.

No services are planned. Debra donated her body to the University of Iowa Deeded Body Program

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed in Debra’s name to Friends of the Animal Center Foundation or to CommUnity Crisis Services and Food Bank.

Debra was born February 11, 1939 in Kenosha, Wisconsin, the daughter of Leslie and Kathryn (Polonge) Gabrielson. She grew up in Milwaukee where she attended the Layton School of Art. Debra moved to Iowa City, where she received a degree in art from the University of Iowa.

Debra worked at the University of Iowa in various departments, including the Museum of Art and the library system.

In 1983 Debra married (John) Thomas Lee. They both enjoyed collecting etchings of the 1880’s from the painter/etchers group. Many have been donated to the Museum of Art. She also enjoyed needlework and gardening.

Survivors include two nieces, Sharyl (Tom) Hivko and Kimberly Duhon and two nephews, Derek (Joanne) Duhon and Donn (Christy) Duhon, and great-nephews and -nieces.

Debra was preceded in death by her husband, Tom; her parents; a sister and brother-in-law; and grandparents.
