Dean Thomas Kisling, 76, of Cedar Rapids passed away March 25, 2023. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Funeral Service: 1 p.m. Thursday, April 6, 2023, at Springs of Life Church. Entombment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Dean was born on Jan. 9, 1947, in Keosauqua, Iowa, the son of Roy E. and Evelyn A. (Brown) Kisling. He graduated from Kirkwood Community College where he studied Horticulture and Landscaping. On March 24, 1979, he was united in marriage to Linda Thomas at St. James United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids. Linda and Dean met playing volleyball. Dean was retired from the Cedar Rapids Community Schools where he worked as a custodian. He was a member of Springs of Life Church in Cedar Rapids. Dean was a man of God and was devoted to reading his Bible. He loved going camping. Dean also enjoyed traveling, especially to Panama City Beach in Florida and Noah’s Ark in Kentucky. He liked riding his bicycle on the recreation trails. Dean was a very talented gardener, raising plants and vegetables. In his younger days, he enjoyed fishing. Most of all, Dean treasured spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Linda of Cedar Rapids; sons Jeremy Kisling of Marion and Eric (Kris) Kisling of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren Ellery and Zander Kisling; and siblings, sisters Grace Whitfield of Perry, Fla., Lola (Don) Jewell of Davenport and Carol Kisling of Cedar Rapids.
Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers Carl, Robert, Dwight, Paul and Charlie Kisling; and sisters Dorothy Manley, Mildred Bowman and Helen Manley.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
